Yoshi was a pain to work with; there is no point point denying it. He is a unique character, but in this case unique usually means awkward, campy, or just plain bad.

It took a lot of time, attention, and experimentation, but Yoshi finally ended up in a place everyone can enjoy. With heavy armor on egg roll and improved shield damage on aerials, Yoshi’s approach options are improved; meanwhile, more rewarding throws make his defense better than ever too.

Yoshi is still the same defensive character overall but is both more fun and more rewarding.

Balanced Brawl Bonus: Thick Eggshell

  • Egg Roll now has 7% heavy armor just like Snake’s Cipher and can no longer clash with other moves.

Other Major Changes

  • All aerials do double damage to shields.
  • Tilts and dash attack are now slightly more powerful, no nerf to old combo abilities.
  • Down smash now hits significantly harder.
  • Grab pummel, up throw, down throw, and Egg Lay now do more damage, enhancing Yoshi’s grab game.
  • Egg Roll now has no helpless fall state.
  • Stars on down special now hit harder.
